Connections and distribution to CR Server

I have a series of reports I created locally on my workstation with CR 2013 using command files which all use the same database on a specific development SQL 2012 server.  I had one other report, not of this group on a different database on the same server, however when I created this second connection I specified the server name in lower case letters, while the main set of reports use a connection to the same server but the name was entered all in upper case.  We are in the process of trying to install the first series of reports to our CR 2013 server.  I created one of the reports to use on-demand subreports which is the only one current moved to the CR Server.  However, when our tester tries to run it, it continues to ask for an id and password for second server/database that isn't even used in the moved report.

I have tried to remove the connection from my set of connection or to rename it to be the same as all caps server name and it will not let me do either. If I close CR on my workstation then reopen it, then create a blank report, and before establishing any connections, I can delete the unwanted connection.  But then as soon as I open the report with the subreports that we want to move, it automatically includes a connection to lower case server name and database that it doesn't use and we don't want for this report.  How do I eliminate the need for this connection?

Obviously, I don't know what I am doing when it comes to migrating a report, but the problem we are having seems to have a large impact on our standard development to test and to production process where we have a different set of SQL servers for each level (dev, test, and prod) with different sets of users given access to the databases based on need and the server level.  We have yet to work out how we are going to control the Crystal Reports migration similarly as we do with applications.

For this incident we have one major concern in that we can't be providing the same level of access to all databases on a server just because we have different reports on a report server that use different databases.  Is there any kind of documentation that discuss the issues involved with the migration on reports and/or just installation on CR report server?
