Request could not be submitted for background processing

I have a report that is designed to export a series of PDF files.  The application seems to run fine, but then on another subsequent run I get  the following error.  Usually it will complete ok on the first run.  But if I run it a second time, it will randomly generate this error and of course, no PDF.  Any ideas?
