Configurable task list - Equipment class

Hi Friends,

While setting up configurable  task list function, I did not assign variant (300) class to equipment in IE02, still I am able to get the appropriate relevant task list pulled into work order through direct entry.

Does that mean variant class assignment is not required at all to perform configurable task list functionality? or is there any other reason ?

Please add in your suggestions.
